The Ruins

in North America—the copper mines of Lake Superior which have evidently been worked many centuries since, (probably more than a thousand years ago—perhaps, two or three thousand,)—the mounds in the valley of the Mississippi—the vast ruins of Central America Mexico and South America—_^—grand temples, walls, &c; now overgrown with trees—all prove beyond cavil the existence, ages since, in the Western World, of powerful, populous, and probably civilized nations, whose names, histories, and even traditions had long been lost long before the discovering of Columbus and Vespucius.—
