Mathematics
—The science that treats of quantity, whatever can be measured, numbered, &c.
Pure andor Speculative m. considers quantity abstractly, without relation to matter.
Mixed m. treats of magnitude, &c. as existing in material bodies
Arithmetic, geometry, algebra, trigonometry, &c. are branches of mathematics.—
