     7.55 P.M. In to see W. again for a few minutes. Had left the cemetery deed with Harned. Told W., Harned would some time bring the will around to him: just now it is buried inaccessibly in his safe. W. perfectly satisfied. Was in the bedroom still and still lying down, though not asleep. Had had chicken broth, he said—and some minor things. But "the pull tough." Things not looking up in a way to cheer me.

     Talked with Harned about the idea of having the birthday dinner at his house, using the parlor, and all hands to chip in for costs. Brinton's idea, too. T. quite acquiescing—pleased. W.'s condition so uncertain, [it seems] inadvisable to go to formal preparations.
