     5.30 P.M. W. just finished dinner. Reading Poet-Lore, which had just arrived through the mail. He remarked— "Pretty thin, ain't it? I have been looking it over." Then gave it to me. "If you have any curiosity at all, take it along." As his own Critic had not yet come, I left mine with him.

     I had a letter from President Macalister expressing delight at W.'s suggestion of the Lincoln evening. Committee meeting tomorrow afternoon. I inquired of W. if he had any particular notions to give me—and he said— "No—but to tell them I will (being alive) come. I will have to be given a light, easy carriage: the rest I will attend to or it will take care of itself!"

     Gave him a bill for $4.15 from Ferguson. Though it was old, remembered and would pay.
