     9.45 P.M. Saw W. in his own room, where he was reading the Press. Said he had "greatly enjoyed" his breakfast. Looked very well. "I hope to get out today." Temperature splendid—morning absolutely unclouded. Said sometimes he felt with the papers "as the house-lady with servant girls: I won't hear to having them about."

     Called my attention to a score or so of prints, [illegible] heads from Appleton's Cyclopedia of American Biography. He had "much enjoyed them"—they were "so delicate—so unique." I did not stay more than five minutes. He spoke of the photograph on the mantel as that "of one of my London Socialistic friends—admirers."
