Did not see W. at all today: was out of town—at Logan. But he went over some proof for me and sent it up to the house by Ed in the course of the afternoon. Though Sarrazin wrote his letter which I am using from London, W. wished it indicated in some way that S. was Parisian, etc. Also, as he had it much at heart—seemed a little concerned lest Herbert Gilchrist and I would "garble" the Tennyson letter—I let him arrange it to suit himself—and it proved to suit me perfectly. I have noted in the past week that he was a little twittered that I would not adopt some of his suggestions, but always comforted himself with saying, "It's not my funeral, but yours:" once laughingly saying— "If we do go on this way, it will prove a funeral!"
