Kenneth M. Price is a professor of English at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. He is the co-editor of books on James Weldon Johnson, George Santayana, and nineteenth- century periodical literature. He is also the co-editor of Dear Brother Walt: The Letters of Thomas Jefferson Whitman (Kent State UP, 1984); editor of Walt Whitman: The Contemporary Reviews (Cambridge UP, 1996); and author of Whitman and Tradition: The Poet in His Century (Yale UP, 1990). With Ed Folsom he has co-edited Walt Whitman: Major Authors on CD-ROM (Primary Source Media, 1997).
Ed Folsom is the F. Wendell Miller Distinguished Professor of English at The University of Iowa. He has served as Editor of the Walt Whitman Quarterly Review since 1983. He directed "Walt Whitman: The Centennial Project," with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Iowa Humanities Board. He is the editor of Walt Whitman: The Centennial Essays (U Iowa P, 1994); co-editor of Walt Whitman: The Measure of His Song (Holy Cow!, 1981, rev.ed., 1997); co-editor of Walt Whitman and the World (U Iowa P, 1996); and author of Walt Whitman's Native Representations (Cambridge UP, 1994). With Ken Price he is now engaged in editing Whitman using both CD-ROM and the world-wide web.
The Hypertext Archive activities at the University of Iowa are housed at the Obermann Center for Advanced Studies.
Charles B. Green has been crucial to the design and construction of the Whitman Archive since its inception and served as Project Manager from February 1996 until July 2000 when he shifted to the role of Technical Director for the project. He received his B.A. in English and History at the University of Texas at Austin in 1995 and his M.A. in English at the College of William & Mary in 1996. His M.A. thesis, "'Calamus,' Drum-Taps, and Whitman's Model of Comradeship," finds important continuities between these two clusters of poems and argues that Whitman emerged from the war with a new type of awareness encompassing attachment, charity, and democracy. Green is also the author of multiple articles published in the Walt Whitman Quarterly Review as well as essays in the Walt Whitman Encyclopedia. Green is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the American Studies Program at the College of William and Mary and serves as Special Assistant to the University Vice-President and CIO of Information Technology at the University of Oklahoma.
Matt Cohen serves as Editorial Assistant for the Whitman Archive. His work focuses on HTML coding, bibliographic description of books, and UNIX editing. He has also been instrumental in coordinating arrangements for the FIPSE-funded Whitman/Dickinson Summer Workshop. A Ph.D. candidate in the American Studies program at the College of William & Mary, Cohen is writing his dissertation on "The Still Life: The Heroism of Nineteenth-Century American Bachelorhood."
Robert Nelson, a Ph.D student in the American Studies program at the College of William & Mary, serves as Editorial Assistant for the Whitman Archive. His work primarily focuses upon SGML and HTML coding. He also provides technical and administrative support for the three-year FIPSE-sponsored "Teaching the Whitman and Dickinson Archives" faculty development workshops. Nelson's research focuses upon nineteenth-century cultural and literary history and gender studies.
